Howard Pyle...author of The Merry Adventures of Robin Hood. The first book of the legend. And it's pretty good, too. And I found an interesting connection in it with BBC's version.
While BBC ignores the facts in the book, like Allan being an amazing singer, or Will being Robin's nephew, or Marian being only mentioned twice (once when he thought of her in the beginning, and the other to compare her to the color of...rope? Or was it wood?) Either way, BBC doesn't do a whole lot with the book. And that's a little disappointing, given how amazing it would be to see Allan singing.
HOWEVER, at the end of the book, Robin returns to Locksley after going on the Crusades (yeah, it's at the end) and long story short, he becomes an outlaw again and I just though that it was interesting how the two-Pyle's ending and BBC's beginning-intertwined.
