Basically, everyone knows who Saint Francis is, right? The poor guy who liked animals. Rings a bell? Anyways, he was in the early 13th century, and Robin Hood (the show) started in 1298. Or something like that. Francis died before the two could intertwine or even meet, and if he did live to an old age (which they didn't then, at least this old) he would around ninety when the show started. Perhaps Robin could have had meet Francis when he was a child, he was, after all, a noble. Therefore having money (But maybe, being an orphan and running Locksleys by himself, he wouldn't have). But Francis died early on, so again, maybe not.

Perhaps Robin knew about Francis, but then we have to bring in the factor of Francis being in Italy and Robin in England. The Church was somewhat in the series, so perhaps Robin heard of Francis.
